We receive more visits from people searching for
information on psoriasis then any other search. Udder cream has been used for
generations as a treatment for eczema and psoriasis. This is because
it is a hard working cream designed to keep the skin moist and supple, and
is full of skin repair ingredients designed to speed up healing. It lacks the
additives used
by most creams to make it more marketable, such as strong
perfumes and colours.
The
following is from "New Health UK" magazine titled Psoriasis :Helping
yourself can speed up recovery.
"You
should avoid biological washing powders and fabric conditioners. Toiletries
are another important consideration. Soaps with perfume and colouring can
irritate. Use
a non-detergent soap and avoid bubble baths that contain detergents."
Almost all the commercial
soap and liquid "gentle cleansers" are detergent based containing
either sodium lauryl sulfate or sodium laureth sulfate.
We
attribute the reduction in the itching and irritation associated with psoriasis
that our customers have experienced to be a result of the very mild nature
of the milk soap and the natural ingredients of the udder cream. MooGoo
soap is even more gentle than a natural soap as it contains fresh milk to
assist in washing.
Coal
Tar Treatments.
The
following is from the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration guidelines:
"All
coal tar preparations contain mutagens and are potentially carcinogenic. Justification
in the use of coal tar preparations in terms of benefits versus risk should
be provided....Not recommended for use in children under 2 years of age except
under the supervision of a physician" (http://www.tga.gov.au/docs/pdf/argom_9.pdf)
In
addition to this, from a reading of various psoriasis newsgroups and personal
experience, coal tar treatments seemed to have little if any benefit.
Try
and resist the urge to believe in a miracle cure. It is the nature
of the disease that sufferers would like it cured at any cost and this is
often exploited with many miracle cures available, some with very sophisticated
marketing. A visit to the following website may save you money as it exposes
many of the psoriasis rip-offs currently operating:

General
Information
Psoriasis
is a skin condition in which red, scaly patches develop and show on the skin.
These areas are most common on the scalp, elbows and knees, but can occur
on any areas of the body.
Symptoms of psoriasis vary from person to person. The effects may include:
Red
scaly patches on scalp, elbows, knees and other parts of the body.
Itchiness - it is a problem for many people but there are some who do not
feel itchy at all.
Shedding of scales of skin.
Psoriasis psoriasis - a more severe form of psoriasis which can be painful.
Psoriasis can cause arthritis
For an unknown reason, psoriasis can cause a form of arthritis known as psoriatic
arthritis. Symptoms include:
Discomfort, throbbing or swelling in one or many joints
Tenderness in any joint
Pain caused by inflammation in the joints which stimulates nerve endings.
The joints that are most likely to be affected are:
The last joint in the fingers or toes
Sacrum (lower back), wrists, knees or ankles.
Causes are unknown
The cause of psoriasis is unknown; however, it's likely that a tendency to
psoriasis is inherited because it seems to run in families.
Shocks
and infections can trigger attacks
An accident, nervous shock or a bacterial, viral or fungal skin infection
can make psoriasis appear.
Some
people report that a change of climate can help relieve the symptoms. There
are many support groups including the Psoriasis Association of Australia.
Creams
and medicines can relieve symptoms
It is very important to keep your skin moisturized as dry skin can lead to
scratching.
You
should:
Prevent your skin from drying out.
Keep fingernails and toenails short to prevent damage to the skin from scratching.
Ultraviolet light and PUVA phototherapy.
Medications - such as Methotrexate, Tigason, Cyclosporin and Calcipotriol.
Avoid
creams with potential irritants. Simple is often best for psoriasis sufferers.
We all hope that a cure for the disease will be found soon.
