5 Changes To Expect When Using Natural Shampoo

5 Changes To Expect When Using Natural Shampoo

So you're ready to make the switch to a natural shampoo? Great! Just so you know, it's going to be a different experience than your regular shampoo and conditioner.

You might have made the decision to try a natural shampoo for a few reasons. Either you’re learning about the ingredients in skincare and beauty products or you would like to make more conscious choices. Maybe you’ve got a dry scalp or irritation and you know you need to change the product you’re using.

As you make the transition from conventional to natural products, it’s only natural (lol, get it!) that you will notice some changes in your hair and scalp’s texture, appearance, and overall health. Here are five changes to expect when using a natural shampoo:

1. Less foaming during washing.

The first thing you'll notice when using a natural hair shampoo is how the gentle cleansers perform differently. Unlike conventional shampoos that contain harsh sulfates and chemicals, natural shampoos use plant-based cleansers that are milder on the scalp and hair. They also create a lot less foam than traditional ingredients. This gentle cleansing helps maintain the natural oils produced by your scalp, keeping your scalp hydrated and less prone to itching and flaking.

What this means is that if you have oilier hair, you might need to wash your hair more frequently with a natural shampoo. Over time your scalp should adjust to the gentler product and balance its sebum production to match. Not every product will work for everyone so if the first natural shampoo you try doesn’t work, keep trying different ones until you find the right match for your hair and scalp!

2. Improved Hair Texture

Over time, using a natural shampoo and conditioner can lead to improved hair texture. The gentler cleansers in natural shampoos don't strip your hair of it's natural oils which should keep it more hydrated over time. Natural conditioners also use nourishing oils that help strengthen and condition the hair follicles, improving the quality of your hair over time.

This can result in softer, smoother, and more manageable hair. Additionally, natural shampoo and conditioner can help reduce frizz and enhance your hair's natural shine. If you need a shampoo for oily hair, using a natural shampoo might mean you need to rinse and repeat your hair wash twice to get the full benefits.

3. Balanced Scalp

A healthy scalp is the foundation for healthy hair. Natural shampoos are designed to balance the pH level of your scalp, which can help alleviate issues like dandruff, itchiness, and excess oiliness. In our Milk Shampoo, we also use a specific ingredient called Piroctone Olamine to help control a type of yeast called Malassezia Yeast which is commonly found on the scalp, and can be a cause of dandruff, itching and other scalp issues.

The gentle yet effective ingredients in natural shampoos work together to promote a balanced scalp environment, reducing the risk of scalp irritation and inflammation. Our Milk Shampoo is also ph balanced to human skin!

4. Reduced Chemical Exposure

One of the main reasons people switch to natural shampoo is to reduce their exposure to harmful chemicals found in conventional hair care products. For example, our Milk Shampoo is free from sulfates, parabens, and pthalates, making it both a gentler and more eco-friendly choice for both you and the environment. By choosing a more natural shampoo, you're opting for a cleaner and more sustainable way to care for your hair.

5. Transition Period

When making the switch to natural shampoo, it's important to be aware that there will be a transition period. Your hair and scalp may need some time to adjust to the new product, especially if you've been using conventional shampoos for a long time. During this transition period, you may experience some changes in your hair's appearance and texture, such as increased oiliness or dryness. If this doesn’t balance out after a few weeks, then the shampoo may not be right for you. Although bear in mind that the conditioner you choose to use will also be important in keeping your hair hydrated and soft!

Switching to a natural shampoo is a positive step towards healthier hair and a healthier you! While there may be some initial changes and adjustments, the long-term benefits of using a more natural shampoo are well worth it. From gentle cleansing and improved hair texture to a balanced scalp and reduced chemical exposure, natural shampoo offers a holistic approach to hair care that nourishes both your hair and your well-being. So why not make the switch today and experience the difference for yourself?

Why is there fragrance listed in your Milk Shampoo?

A lot of people in our ads and in our messages have been asking us why we use a Fragrant Oil in our Milk Shampoo when it’s for sensitive scalps. When we first started making products, we used a blend of essential oils to give them a lovely fragrance. But many people have severe reactions and allergies to them, even in small amounts.

As a result, and because we make products for people with sensitive skin, we took them out of most products. There were some products that people couldn’t tolerate the natural smell of without any scent. So instead of using essential oils, we helped to develop a special kind of fragrant oil, whereby each component is less than the EU allergy threshold. This is how we can have a pleasant-smelling product with less chance of irritation. We do consider it carefully.

We meet the requirements for the current updated list of EU fragrance allergens and their thresholds. In other words, the fragrant oils used in our Milk Shampoo sit below the o.o1% threshold for allergens.  If you look through the European Union’s list of allergens and their concentration, you can see most of them are components of essential oils.
